Mid-West Drag Racing Series Invades St. Louis!!
/To say that the last week and a half have been difficult for the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, its racers, staff, fans, and family, would be such weak description. They do say that the show must go on, and that’s what is happening this weekend in St. Louis.
Almost two weeks ago the drag racing community lost a great man. Friday evening on the Mid-West Drag Racing Series event in Great Bend, Kansas, Pro Mod driver Ronnie Hobbs was fatally injured during a top-end accident. For almost two weeks now that loss has weighed heavy on the hearts and minds of the staff and racers at the MWDRS. Though it is with a heavy heart, we all know that we must continue to race, and not for the “That’s what Ronnie would have wanted” line, but getting back at it helps to heal the heart and soul.
This weekend in St. Louis, the MWDRS has set it self up for an extraordinary event that will put on one hell of a show for that fans. For the first time since the inception of the MWDRS they will be hosting the front engine top fuelers. The front engine top fuelers, at least a majority of them, have decided to bypass the other race in Kentucky and join the MWDRS in St. Louis. I have spoke to the group and they indicated that this event will be the largest gathering of front engine top fuel in over 20 years.
Along with the front engine top fuel rides, the MWDRS St. Louis stop is one of the places to come see the Top Fuel Motorcycle group. If you want to see what the absolute edge of insanity looks like, then you really need to see this class. There are people that really live life on the edge, and then there are Top Fuel Motorcycle riders. A different breed of men that I am pretty sure carry their manhood in a damn dump truck!!
As usual, the MWDRS will feature its regular classes as well. This includes Pro Mod, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, and two junior dragster classes. With only three races in the books, as Kansas points and plans will be announced later, all the classes are wide open when it comes to the championship races. Add to that the fact that this is the last race before the MWDRS takes its summer break and gives their drivers July and August off before coming back strong at Martin, Michigan in September.
This event has had an unprecedented number of media requests as well. So I would advise everyone on the grounds to make sure your stuff is looking good, because there will be plenty of photographers on the grounds capturing this weekends action. It’s gonna be warm, but that is summertime in the midwest. And if you think the temp is hot, wait until you see the action on the track!
