Kevin Maddux, Earl Folse, Rob Moser, and Frankie Taylor Headline MWPMS St. Louis
/Madison, IL - (April 30, 2019) The Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) rolled into the Iconic Arch over the weekend during stop number three, and we saw Kevin Maddux, Frankie Taylor, Rob Moser, and Earl Folse take home wins.
“St. Louis posed some challenges that would have rattled any promoter, and yet our racers, crew, media, and fans stuck with us until the end. I couldn’t be prouder of the job that everyone did to put on such a great event”, stated series Founder Keith Haney.
After coming off the events and cancellation of stop number two in our series at Bowling Green’s Outlaw Street Car Reunion, the fans and racers were chopping at the bit to get on the track and race their hearts out. The weather all week looked iffy to say the least, but that didn’t stop our Pro Mod, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman folks from coming to St. Louis and battling each other for the win.
In Pro Mod, a couple of regulars were missing, but we still had 27 Pro Mods on the property vying to take home the $10k payday. Some of the most beautiful cars come and compete on the MWPMS stage, and they put on great side by side racing for the fans. Kevin Maddux was the one to take home the money and trophy though.
Kevin’s Corvette is always one that you stop and look at in the pits. Along with a great crew, he was able to work his way to the finals with victories over Frankie Taylor, Craig Sullivan, and Jim Sackuvich before having to face off against one of the most beautiful and powerful cars in all of drag racing in Aaron Wells. Both competitors did their burnout, but when Aaron backed up, he was shut off by the starter Kane Daily, as he was dripping oil. This meant that Kevin was going to take the win as soon as he took the tree. The tree dropped, and by 80’ out Kevin shook the tires, and coasted down track. Later on, Aaron stated that they discovered just a small hole in an oil line that caused all of this. While he was certainly disappointed in the loss, he is very happy that his consistent showing has put him #1 in points after this event.
Kevin, his wife Kristen, and the rest of the crew came rolling down the return road ecstatic that they were able to pull this one off. Kevin missed the first race in Ennis but is now sitting in seventh place in the points and working his way up. We plan on seeing both of them fighting it out again in two weeks.
This was the second stop on tour for the T/D and T/S classes, yet in T/S it was the same result that we saw at the first race. With an abundance of entrances in both classes, it was going to be tight racing all weekend.
Race Star Wheels Top Dragster brought out some of the Midwest locals, as well as some of the MWPMS regulars. When we say tight racing, these folks were so close all weekend that you couldn’t even tell from the starting line who was going to pull it out each pass. In the finals though, it was Rob Moser, and his Moser Engineering back dragster that took the win over Al Peavler. This was Rob’s first race with the MWPMS and we are certainly hoping that the Moser team will be able to run some more events with us in the future. The convincing win for Rob and the team puts him in a dead tie for second place on the points board as well already.
Top Sportsman is another class that was added to the 2019 lineup in MWPMS and Earl Folse has treated it as his personal playground for two races now. Earl mowed down the tree and the rest of the field all weekend long. In the finals, Earl was matched up against Mark McDonald and yet again it was Earl taking the win as Mark broke out with .21 on a .24. Two races and two wins for the team have put Earl in a very commanding points lead early season.
Wrapping up the weekend was the MWPMS Slammers Class. This is a class for the Pro Mods that don’t qualify in the top 16 or lose in round one of eliminations. They are able to accrue points towards the championship as well. This was especially important at St. Louis, as Frankie Taylor lost to event winner Kevin Maddux in E1. Frankie entered the slammers, and was able to take the win on that side after facing off against one of the toughest Pro Mods in the world in Mike Recchia in finals. The Slammers win keeps Frankie second in points, right ahead of the “Young Gun” Justin Jones.
In less than two weeks we will see all these drivers clawing and scratching for the win at Tulsa Raceway Park during the fourth stop on the tour, none other than the Throwdown in T-Town. Tulsa will be the last race for the MWPMS drivers before a well-deserved break in the action.
