2X PDRA World Champion Tommy Franklin takes the season opener at Mad Mule
/Mad Mule season opener was yesterday 3/3/18 and it was none other than the 2X and current PDRA World Champion Tommy Franklin with the win over an absolutely stacked field.
When I say a stacked field, that might just be an understatement. This was a field of the who's who with nitrous powered pro mods. Jay Cox, Lizzy Musi, Jim Halsey, Randy Weatherford, Jason Harris, and more.
The Carolinas are a hot spot of Pro Mod drag racing and have been for the better part of 20 years. Mad Mule is a one day event that most pro mod drivers in the Carolinas use as a great test session to kick off the season. With the PDRA opener only a month away, it is a great chance for the drivers to get their feet wet after a long winter.
Tommy had to go through Aaron Glaser, Randy Weatherford, and Jim Halsey before meeting with the Buck Racing Engines powered Pumpkin of Jay Cox. Jay had just as tough of a run to the finals as well. Jay had to go through John Strickland and Lizzy Musi before he and Tommy got ready to square off for the win.
Tommy got the jump on Jay at the line and drove his Musi powered hot rod to the stripe, while it appears that Jay's car fell off pace due to some mechanical issues about half track. Tommy will be sporting that #1 in PDRA Pro Nitrous this season, and based on the performance of yesterday, shows no signs of giving up that #1 spot anytime soon.
