Less about racing, more about comebacks last weekend at Galot PDRA
/Well we are a few days removed from the PDRA East Coast Nationals at Galot Motorsports Park. To say the racing was amazing would be drastically understating it, but the bigger story might be the comebacks made by some of the biggest names in pro mod racing.
Terry "Legbone" Leggett was on the property for the first time in quite sometime. You may know Terry's Mustang as one of the quickest 1/8th mile cars on the planet. He had to take some time off from racing though due to health concerns last year. Terry managed to pick up where he left off though, when he started dropping low 3.50's on the Pro Extreme field. There didn't seem to be anything that was going to beat Terry. Though something went wrong and Terry ended up losing to SGMP winner Tommy D'Aprile. While Terry may have lost the round, the simple fact is the being back in the car shows how much of a champion he is. It is great to see him back out there and we hope to be able to sit down with him at the next race to chat.
Another huge pro mod name was on the property at Galot last weekend. The 2016 pro Extreme World Champion Brandon Snider. Brandon spent the off season trying to land a new primary sponsor for his blown Pro Extreme car. While he was not there with his championship car, he was there in a newly built Bickle car with the backing of AAP. Brandon was competing in Pro Boost. Brandon was having the new cars blues, and given the fact that the car was picked up just days before the event it's understandable, he did not make the field.
As far as the racing goes, you couldn't have asked for better fields. The racing was tight and well worth watching. The stands were packed on Saturday at Galot to watch all the action as well. El General proved once again that they are the team to beat in Pro Boost. We had a first time winner, James Hancock take the Pro Nitrous win over last years World Champ Tommy Franklin, and in pro Extreme we saw Michael Recchia take the win over Tommy D'Aprile, who won the opening race of the year.
In Pro Stock, we saw a brand new heavy hitter on the scene. Chris Powers of Powers Xtreme Motorsports, in the ATI Performance Products backed Camaro. The car is powered by a Sonny's 830 CI engine. They only had two previous passes on the car and decided to come to Galot to do data gathering. Not only did they collect data, they took home the win.
Due to time restraints at Galot, we were unable to finish some of the finals. They will be wrapped up at Darlington next month. In the mean time make sure to follow PDRA Racing on Facebook and stay tuned to E3xtreme for PDRA related news.
