PDRA Pro Nitrous Champion Tommy Franklin Purchases Virginia Motorsports Park

We got the final word from Judy and Tommy this evening that the deal is a done deal.  The Franklin family has purchased the historic Virginia Motorsports Park.

We have known for quite some time now that this was in the works, but until we received the final word from the Franklin family, we decided not to report anything. This is a big move for the Franklin family, who are the co-owners of the PDRA series, which is at VMP this weekend wrapping up their fourth season.

Tommy, who was last year's PDRA Pro Nitrous Champion is leading the points again this season over second place Jay Cox by a slim 102 points. Tommy isn't the only champion in the family though. Daughter Amber, already wrapped up the championship in Pro Juniors this season as well.

For those of you that have been to a PDRA race and had the pleasure of speaking with the Franklin family already know that they are all about family. I am sure that will be reflected at VMP moving forward as well. Since Tommy was testing today and Judy was on her way to the track with their girls, we were unable to get a phone interview on some details, but when we have them we will update our article. As of right now, we do not believe that there is a name change planned for the track, and no personnel announcement moving forward have been discussed.

In my opinion it is great to see racers and business people invest into the sport that they love so much. Tommy is already a very successful business man when it comes to Franklin Electric, so I am hoping that we will see some great lighting and sound at VMP in the future. Congrats to the entire Franklin family on the new venture!! We at E3xtreme look forward to making it over there next season when the PDRA rolls in for two seperate races during their 2018 tour.
