Rig Driver for David Gilliland Racing's ARCA team killed in wreck
Yesterday we received news that the driver and two passengers in the hauler for David Gilliland Racing’s ARCA team were involved in an accident that took the life of the driver.
According to statements from the Texas Department of Safety, there was an accident involving the rig and another vehicle. It appears as though the rig collided with a vehicle that was towing a trailer in front of them and this caused the rig and the other vehicle to both end up in the median, where Gilliland Racing trailer ended up on its side. In the process of this happening, the driver Steven Stotts was killed and the other two in the rig were taken to the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle it was stated was also transported to the hospital. The rig was apparently on its way to a race in Arizona, which was to be held this Friday evening.
A statement from the David Gilliland Racing Team States:
We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Steven Stotts,
co-driver for our No. 17 ARCA team transporter, that was involved in
an accident early this morning near Longview, Texas. Our deepest
sympathies go out to Steven's family and friends.
John Zaverl and Michael Mizzelle, who were passengers in the
transporter, have been treated and released from a local hospital.
Our continued thoughts are with the driver of the second vehicle
involved in the accident.
