This weekend in Tulsa the Mid-West Drag Racing Series rolls in with huge championship point implications. They are contesting two races over the weekend, the make-up race from Great Bend, Kansas along with the traditional Throwdown In T-Town.

The Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) is known to have some of the tightest points races at the end of the season, and this season is no different. As of this writing there are multiple classes that are as close as one point separation between #1 and #2. Hundreds of points are on the line, it really is anyone’s championship for the taking. Once they leave Tulsa, there is only one race left for these drivers to either be the bride or a bridesmaid.

In Pro Mod, the field is led by Dustin Nesloney is at the top of the pack, but he certainly isn’t safe yet. There is less than a 300 point difference between Dustin and the number ten spot. Depending on how this weekend goes, there are plenty of drivers with a shot at wearing the title of Champion. Might it be another year where the championship comes down to the last couple of passes, or will Dustin pull away this weekend and extend his lead?

Top Alcohol Funny car…WOW. This year is a battle to say the least. Chris Marshall and team Disturbed Racing is holding on to the top spot in points by the thinest of margins. Nipping at his heals is none other than Annie Whiteley in the J&A Service Camaro. With just three points races left for the two of them in the season, there is a singular point separating them. Every run for the rest of this season will make a difference in the championship hunt. Don’t be surprised if you see these two battling it out until the end of the year.

Moving over to Top Sportsman, the points spread in almost as close as the Alcohol Funny Car. They top two contenders are only two points apart, but Michael Chitty, who is currently sitting in first isn’t competing in the Great Bend event. Only racers that were at Great Bend will be competing in that event in Tulsa. This leaves the door wide open for Rod Moore to take over the points lead. It also means he and Michael can continue to fight for the points lead throughout the Tulsa portion of the weekend.

Top Dragster has been a fight between Anita Strasburg, Dan Phelps, and Delaina Whiteley all season and there is no sign of that changing. Anita, who was the 2021 MWDRS World Champion is still holding a slim lead over Dan, who is holding onto an even slimmer lead over Delaina. Less than 40 points is the spread between the three of these world-class drivers. All three of them will be fighting for and eating up points from the Great Bend and Tulsa events this weekend. Going out early this weekend could cause any of the three of them a chance to call themselves the 2022 MWDRS World Champion.

Pro Jr. Dragster, the future of drag racing is in a dogfight for the championship. Right now the championship lead is held by Alexis Kesterson. She has held the #1 spot almost all season and is on a mission to take home that championship title in 2022. She isn’t in the clear yet though, as the 2021 Champion Jonathan McClain and Brody Zimmermann are tied for the second spot, only 60 points behind Alexis. Just like Top Dragster, these three are all in the hunt this weekend, as they are all part of both races.

Sportsman Jr Dragster is lead by the 2021 World Champion Tyler Wells, who is looking to go back-to-back in 2022. Tyler has a solid 70 point lead over Kale Moberly. Tyler’s sister Kenzie is sitting in third with Breccan Whiteley trailing her by only 5 points. Look for these four to really go for it over the last events of the season!

To toss one last wrench into the mix, those drivers that competed at 7 out of the 8 races that the MWDRS contests will receive a 50 point bonus at the end of the season.
