Yet another facility closed
Recently we lost yet another drag strip. This seems to be a continuing trend over the last 18 months or so.
The Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, CA has announced that they have closed their operations.
After careful consideration on the best direction forward for Auto Club Speedway, the difficult decision has been made to permanently close Auto Club Dragway. We thank all of the competitors, fans and corporate partners who made so many wonderful memories at Auto Club Dragway through the years, and we look forward to making new ones as we embark on our 25th Anniversary Season at the 2-mile oval in 2022.
This comes after we have heard announcements and or rumors of tracks like Commerce, Palm Beach, Houston, Joliet, and more all close or announce that they were closing. Tracks like Cordova, Maryland, and potentially Memphis have all been sold or in the process as well. Luckily those tracks will remain open.
It should come as no surprise that a track in California has closed. California, which has long been considered the birthplace of hotrods has done everything in its power to destroy the motorsports industry over the last 20 years. The west coast is becoming more and more a less viable option for most of the motorsports industry.
