Brian Chin Unveils New Pro 275 car "Privilege" Full Interview

The world of drag racing, at least the world that I typically report on and live in was shocked at the end of this season when Outlaw 10.5 driver, Brian Chin, announced that he was selling the orange Camaro that everyone loved. Well tonight, Brian unveiled the rendering of the new car he will campaign in 2021. I had a chance to speak with Brian tonight and bring all of you the details.

Previously, Brian rocked the orange Camaro, which was powered by a Fulton engine with Switzer Dynamics nitrous plumbed on board. If you never had the chance to see the Camaro, it only takes a see moments to go back through and see that when it raced and we were there it was photographed heavily. It appears that the new car will be no exception to that rule.

Cadillac CTS-V of all things is the car that Brian has decided to go with this time around. The story behind that is funny though. Brian’s mom actually owned a 4dr and they were talking about what to build next, whether it would be a Camaro, a Corvette, or something else. His mom said, “why don’t you build one like mine?” The funny thing about that though is once the decision was made, everything really came full circle. The Cadillac is based on Mom’s ideas, while the previous Camaro was actually Brian’s dad’s streetcar for a long time.

Now if you are wondering about why it is a Pro 275 car, look back at the article I posted from a couple of weeks ago regarding the demise of Outlaw 10.5. Not only was it the demise of the class, but Brian stated that he had already made the decision that Pro 275 was the direction he wanted to go next. He stated that the car counts, the payouts, the fact that it is a class everywhere he races, and the overall stability of the class made the decision much easier.

While I was talking to Brian he stated that HFR Fabrication, and Henry Fryfogle out of Manchester, Maryland has been tasked with building the new car. HFR is the same shop that built Brian’s teammate Mo Hall’s current Corvette as well. The Cadillac will be powered by a 959” Fulton beast and plumbed with all the Switzer Dynamics goodies. Motec will be the system controlling everything, and Brandon Switzer along with Mo Hall will handle the primary tuning duties. Putting the power to the pavement with be PRS suspension. An interesting fact about the car is that the Cadillac has a wheelbase that is almost 4” longer than the Camaro also. The stock WB on the Cadillac is 113.4”, whereas the Camaro is about 109”.

Regarding a timeframe to have the car wrapped up and ready to compete, Brian stated that there are a couple of cars ahead of him, and he isn’t jumping ahead of anyone. He told me that he is thinking the car should be ready sometime in April of 2021 to be able to make it’s big race debut at the 2020 YellowBullet make-up date in May at Cecil County Dragway. With that said, if the car is done earlier, he will certainly be out there to compete.

I know that some are wondering about the rendering. The color is going to be a Cadillac pearl white, and yes the bullhorns are gone. The Cadillac will be sporting zoomies. Brian stated, “I’m not out there to look pretty or photogenic this time, I am out there to win.”
