Breaking News: Iconic Carolina Dragway "House of Hook" Goes NHRA & More
In what could be the biggest news to hit the Carolina drag racing scene in years, the iconic House of Hook has decided to make a change. Jeff Miles and his family are becoming and NHRA track. That’s not the only news though…
Jeff reached out to E3xtreme with the exciting news. Not only is his iconic House of Hook, Carolina Dragway going to be an NHRA track, but he also has a multi-phase remodel planned at the track.
Here is what Jeff had to say:
Sometimes change is a good thing, Carolina Dragway is poised to experience quite a bit of change over the next few months.
Phase One
Starting immediately as NHRA is welcomed aboard. NHRA and it’s various specialty races brings a new fresh look to the House Of Hook, NHRA Division 2 Director Rich Schaefer has worked hard to make the transition as seamless as possible.
Phase Two
This will bring many renovations and upgrades to the facility. From the 1/8 Mile line to the top end of the shutdown area, milling of the current asphalt to remove the rough aged material will begin within the next two weeks, once the old asphalt is milled down, a fresh layer of a special mix will be spread to a smooth finish. No longer will the grass along the sides of the shutdown area be visible as the paving will go wall to wall giving a full 60’ wide of pavement.
Future phases
During future phases, it will include tearing out of the current 1/8 Mile all concrete surface and replacing with a laser poured finishing of concrete as well as asphalt along the edges to make the transition perfect. Additional shutdown area is in the plans as well to have more than ample room for any vehicle to safely shutdown after a full 1/4 Mile pass.
Other miscellaneous renovations are planned throughout the year and another major announcement is yet to come so stay tuned, it only gets better!
A full schedule will be out soon with the return of all your favorite races including Thursday Night Thunder on 28’s, Mike Hill’s famous grudge events, SFG bracket events, Team Carolina bracket races and the return of big money Pro Mod racing. 2018 promises to be a banner year for South Carolina’s Thunder Capital! Please visit www.CarolinaDragway.com or Carolina Dragway on Facebook to keep up with all the latest upgrades.
I think it's fair to say that Jeff will continue to carry on an amazing facility, and hold some of the biggest events in the south. E3xtreme looks forward to heading over and doing some race coverage this season at the House of Hook.
