The Gatornationals are here
Welcome to race weekend folks. We are here at the NHRA Gatornationals this weekend to cover the action and bring you the news of what's what. Yesterday we rolled in and walked the pits to see what was on everyone's mind.
It seems that the big concern right now is over in the Pro Mod pits. There were a bunch of cars that tested earlier this week and it seems like the ability to make the boost allowed in the turbo combos is an issue according to multiple teams that we talked to.
Outside of that, it is looking like this might be the quickest NHRA pro mod field in the history of the class. Most we talked to think the bump is going to be around an .88 or so. Yes, that means we would have 16 cars all in the 5.80's. Not too bad for the first NHRA pro mod race of the season.
The other talk is the arrival of the one and only, small tire superstar, Stevie "Fast" Jackson. Stevie is on the property with his brand new Bickle built, blown Camaro. This is Stevie's first NHRA pro mod event, and like he said "I feel like it's the first day of high school, and I haven't found the principle's office yet". Based on Stevie's testing numbers, we think he should be ready to go.
Speak of ready to go, Kevin "Flash" Fiscus is on the ground this weekend as well with Mustang Sally. Now that Kevin has a Proline Hemi in the Mustang, he looks to be a solid contender once again in NHRA. Rickie Smith has rolled in with his newly wrapped hotrod, which we will make sure to grab some photos for you of it too.
In Nitro news, you'd be hard pressed to not notice that Larry Dixon is back in the seat where he belongs this weekend. After some time away to address his health, Larry is back and ready to get at it. We hope to see him at a lot more events this year.
That about wraps up Thursday. As soon as anything breaks you can watch here or on our Facebook page for news.
