200 MPH Passes, Personal Bests, and Monster Wheelstands at the opening day of the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals

Friday was the opening day of the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals event here at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA. The windy was whipping and the temps were less than comfortable, but we saw some amazing performances, along with some pants checking wheelstands.

Adam Flamholc, along with his crew of Frank Beal, Mike Canter, and Rasmus Solberg pulled off something on Friday in the 5 Day Plantation Shutter and Blinds backed Corvette that they had never done before. Adam drove the wheels off of the machine to a first ever 200 mph 1/8th mile pass. This was a huge accomplishment for the team. It also put them atop the heap in an ever competitive Pro Mod field. To go along with that 200 mph, he always squeezed out a 3.77 to put him solidly in the top spot. Watch out for Adam this weekend and see if he can carry it all the way to the winners circle.

Radial superstar Dwayne Mills and the Golden Gorilla are on the property this weekend as well. Dwayne decided that during Q2 he was going to let it hang out, and the car certainly decided to come up on him. He still managed between passes in Q1 and Q2 to secure the top spot. Super Dave Adkins and his big body car is here as well, and we saw him run new personal bests on Friday during qualifying.

In Coyote Stock and Factory Stock, sixty foot ass dragging bumper stands is what was on the menu Friday. While we didn't see the times that we say in Florida last month, we certainly saw some closely bunched times. If you are into 450 hp cars putting it on the bumper though, this is what you need to be watching. Cars driven by Sondra Leslie, Tim Matherly, and just about every other car in both classes at any moment will stand it sky high.

Saturday will host the True Street cruise at noon. You will see some of the most beautiful street driven cars in the nation, include previous Coyote Stock World Champion Joe Charles and his brand new AWD, turbo powered, Ford Focus RS (Stay tuned for a feature on that).

The weather is looking amazing, so I think it's time that you stopped reading and get in the car to come see some amazing drag racing action. It's well worth the drive over. We have a round of qualifying this morning, and a round of eliminations later today.
